Ecology and quality as highest priorities

The Romantikhotel Zell am See & the "Zum Metzgerwirt" Inn in Zell am See have been awarded the ecolabel (Umweltzeichen) by Minister Niki Berlakovich in Vienna.

The Austrian ecolabel is a guarantee for environmentally friendly products and services. Environmental awareness is of great importance today in our society. It is clear that more and more people are trying to contribute to the protection of the environment by changing their consumer behaviour. Private companies and public services alike are aiming to adapt their services to follow environmentally friendly procedures. This is the reason why the Austrian Minister for the Environment, Dr Marlies Flemming, chose to create an ecolabel in 1990.
 
The ecolabel is awarded to products and institutions in the tourism industry and the education sector. It gives the public information about the effect of a product on the environment in terms of its production, use and disposal. In this way, consumers and purchasers can recognize which products are ecologically friendly.

The ecolabel was created in order to motivate producers and distributors to develop and market ecological product alternatives for better environmental protection. This is meant to cause a dynamic market process to promote environmentally friendly products and services. 

Environmental philosophy at the Romantikhotel

We as a company adhere to this philosophy and work hard at putting it into practice. Our disposal system, energy and purchasing concepts have been reconsidered and redesigned to satisfy the conditions of the ecolabel. Our motivation herein was not only to reduce costs but also to lead by example for the generations to follow. Everybody from our team members, guests and family including children have been involved in this process to gain the ecolabel.

This is why Anna and Sebastian Hörl went up together with their parents to receive the award. We are proud of this award but also see it as a commitment to continue developing in this direction while motivating our business partners, team members and guests to participate too. The next important step in putting concepts into practice pertains to our purchases and therefore has a direct consequence on the menu of our “Zum Metzgerwirt“ Inn – with this new concept the idea of the ecolabel is integrated even more into our business!

Electric scooters for our guests, a collection service from the train station and avoiding one way packaging are definitely a must in the Romantikhotel! Economy and ecology needn’t contradict each other!
